The disclosure, upfront
NotchBay is ours; NotchNook belongs to lo.cafe, and it earned its reputation — it's been polishing the notch-as-tray idea longer than almost anyone, and its animation quality set a bar the whole category chases. This page keeps the comparison to checkable feature rows, current as of July 2026. When in doubt, run both trials.

The real difference: decoration vs workday
Both apps make the notch feel alive. The split is what happens at 9:58am when a meeting starts.
On NotchNook, the notch is a beautiful place your files and music live. On NotchBay, the island shows the meeting chip two minutes out, joins it in one tap, then swaps to mute/leave controls that work even when Zoom is buried three Spaces away. After the call, the thing your teammate pasted is already in the tray, OCR-searchable, and a voice note types itself into your doc — nothing routed through a server.
Frequently asked questions
Is NotchNook a subscription?
NotchNook's pricing has used subscription and lifetime options — check lo.cafe for current terms rather than trusting any blog's snapshot, ours included.
Which is better for a MacBook Air?
Both run on notched Airs. NotchBay requires macOS Tahoe (26) for its on-device speech engine; check NotchNook's site for its current minimum macOS.
Can I migrate my tray files between them?
There's no import tool either way, but both store what you drag in as regular files — drag out of one, into the other.
NotchBay puts live activities, call controls, a clipboard tray and on-device dictation in the space your MacBook already has.
